The Chicago Hand Center is comprised of Plastic Surgery and Hand Specialists, Hand Therapy Associates and the NovaMed Center for Reconstructive Surgery and Imaging Center.

Dr. Schlenker graduated with honors from both Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He completed residency first in General Surgery and later in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and has been certified in both these specialties. In addition, he completed a Fellowship in Hand Surgery and satisfied the requirement for “Added Qualification in Hand Surgery.”
Dr. Schlenker is fluent in Spanish, French, and German.
For most of his patients needing surgery, Dr. Schlenker uses the on-site Ambulatory Surgery Center. He also is an active staff member at the following local hospitals:
Hand Therapy Associates is comprised of registered/licensed Occupational Therapists with experience in areas of Hand Rehabilitation, Industrial Rehabilitation and general rehabilitation of the upper extremities.
Our therapists focus on rehabilitation of the upper extremity, pre and post surgical, traumatic injury, accident, illness or other condition in order to return the individual to their previous activities. Therapy may include the following:
The Center for Reconstructive Surgery was founded by Dr. James Schlenker in 1987 to serve the needs of his patients. This is State licensed, AAAHC certified Ambulatory Surgery Center, and Medicare certified,
The Surgery Center has four operating rooms with state of the art equipment. The Surgery Center is utilized by hand surgeons, as well as pain specialists, ophthalmologists, podiatrists, plastic surgeons, and others.
